We are but weak beings, struggling to survive each day by clawing our way to safety. It is made in such a way that we will never quite make it to the finish line to ensure that we continue to scratch and drag ourselves as far as we can manage.
It does sound like a sad existence but what can you expect from a world that has moved too quickly? Man decided we were not wise enough and thus played the Almighty, creating miracle upon miracle. People everywhere applauded, giving each other pats on the back for a job well done. We have made it. We were the smartest living things on the face of the planet! Woo Hoo!
And then suddenly, we start going downhill. Well not exactly downhill but the facade we had created for the world is slowly being defaced. Like policemen whitewashing graffiti art, we attempt to cover lie after lie, eventually wiping out the true nature of people and living in a world filled with conspiracy and angst (Think Pandora's box and all the Angels of Sin that flew out when she undid the golden cord). We start hating each other and ourselves, striving continuously to change ourselves into someone that we are not just to keep up with the world we have created.
So when politicians and scientists say vehemently that we should not complain so much as this is the world and society we created for ourselves, should we be upset? Do we even have the right to be upset since it was our own undoing all along?
But of course it is not all woe is me. Good things, in fact, great things, have emerged from our advancement and our need to always stay on top of the food chain. We made sure those who suffered from supposedly incurable illness such as tuberculosis and pneumonia made speedy and full recoveries and are even in advance stages of finding cures for AIDS and cancer. Most of us are educated well enough and want a better world for ourselves and our future generations. We construct beautiful cities and build impressive cityscapes so as to live comfortably. Basically we have. and are still, doing everything we can to make our lives the best we can.
However, we cannot dismiss the fact that right now, as I type this post, we are slowly regressing to the past, the mythic past of simple pleasures and where unicorns shit rainbows. For me, simple pleasures have always made me happy enough. A genuine laugh or smile from a loved one, a true and tight hug in my times of sadness and doubt, watching the sun set in the distance with a cold beer in my hand...that's the way life should be to me. Different experiences trigger my need for adventure and my thirst for the wild outdoors. I personally want a future for my kids where they enjoy life as it is. I want for them to take in the goodness behind the deteriorating facade of our society, to see the core of people and understand that the world works in miraculous ways. It hurts and heals according to the destiny set for it. It brings worlds together and apart at the exact right moments. I want my kids to grow up believing that everything happens for a reason and that we are all, in essence and at our core, only human.
Thus ends my post on being human.
